There is a doctor who is pushing his supplement line using scare tactics that the lectins (a type of plant protein) in food are killing us. Let me assure you that is lectins were deadly the human race would not exists as they are in all the staples humans have eaten for centuries (grains and beans specifically). Most lectins, like those found in tomatoes, lentils, peas, chickpeas, faba beans, etc, are non-toxic. There isn’t even a story there.

There is one exception. Kidney beans. Eating uncooked kidney beans will cause diarrhea and vomiting due to lectin poisoning. But don’t let that scare you away from eating them. If you boil kidney beans for more than 10 minutes all the lectins are gone and it is safe to eat. And if you’ve ever made kidney beans, you know they are hard as rocks unless you boil them for almost an hour. If your kidney beans are edible, they are safe to eat.

Don’t let an MD out to make money on his supplement line scare you into not eating healthy foods.
